Personal Trainer Requirements

A personal trainer is a certified fitness industry professional trained to help clients obtain their fitness goals with workout routines and nutrition advice. Maybe you have thought about becoming a personal trainer, but don't know where to start.  There are certain personal trainer requirements necessary to be successful as a personal fitness trainer.

Basic Personal Trainer Requirements

Almost anyone can become a personal trainer but it takes someone with a strong desire to help people and be a person who can easily get along with just about anyone.  You will be successful if you are someone who is willing to go out of your way to help people with their goals no matter what.

College degrees are not necessary but are helpful. A degree in nutrition or exercise science will open more doors. If you plan to establish your own business, you will need to have some level of business education to help in marketing and planning your business.

Personal Trainer Certification Requirements
There are several organizations and each have their own certification exams such as The American College of Sports Medicine, American Council on Exercise and the National Council on Strength and Fitness.

Other Certification Requirements
First-aid and CPR certifications are usually required to work in a health club. It is extremely important to be able to help your clients in the event that they experience a medical emergency while training. Community colleges and American Red Cross routinely offer first-aid and CPR courses.
